About Lismore
Lismore is one of the most historic towns in Waterford. The name Lismore comes from two words - Lis meaning Fort and Mor meaning big. It's meaning is derived from the round hill or great Irish fort to the east of the town. In 636 AD St. Carthage founded a monastery here. The town after its monastic foundation became a seat of learning and was known all over Europe.
Lismore Castle was built by Prince John of England in 1185. Robert Boyle, the philosopher and father of modern chemistry, was born in Lismore in 1626. In 1753, the castle and its lands passed to the 4th Duke of Devonshire by reason of his marriage to Lady Charlotte Boyle.
Getting To Lismore
Situated in beautiful County Waterford in Southern Ireland, the Historic town of Lismore is well sign posted on the N72, the main route to Killarney via the picturesque Blackwater Valley. The town is 30 minutes drive from Dungarvan the county town, 45 minutes drive from Midleton and 60 minutes drive from both Waterford and Cork Cities.

In Lismore
As you arrive in Lismore follow the black and gold signposts which will lead you to the Heritage Centre and the Tourist Information Office. These are located in the centre of Lismore directly across the road from both Lismore Hotel and the Millennium Park. The town has free public car park and coach facilities.
